THE 80´s

According to Mrs. Vazquez, the first 5 years were the toughest for all of them, but thru hard work, they continued to serve their customers. Soon after, they began to distribute their corn tortillas to local stores and super markets and in 1980, they introduced the flour tortilla into the distribution line. The flour tortillas were so loved, that customers began to call them La Mejor, which translates to the best. So, the decision was made to change the name of the business to Tortilleria La Mejor Del Valle. Business continued to grow and the Vazquez family had to continue to add more to their existing business. A tortilla factory was officially built with new tortilla machinery and the store was expanded as well. The name La Mejor soon became synonymous for exceptional Mexican food products. Their tortillas were even shipped and sold in Japan and France.

OUR STORY

Since 1970

La Mejor is located in a small town in The Central Valley, and the story of La Mejor begins with the Vazquez family in 1970.

In 1970, Mr. and Mrs. Vazquez learned of a small business for sale in Farmersville, CA. They drove down to visit, fell in love and decided to go for it! They quit both their jobs, sold their home, and moved to Farmersville along with their 4 young children. Since Mr. Vazquez was in construction, he built a small living area behind their small Mexican market, where they lived for approximately 5 years. The doors officially opened on Thursday, October 15, 1970. The name of their business back then was El Nuevo Progresso.
